Brindlewood Bay: A Very Special Exorcism

INTRO: BRINDLEWOOD BAY is a roleplaying game about a group of elderly women—members of the local Murder Mavens mystery book club—who frequently find themselves investigating (and solving!) actual murder myster ies. They become increasingly aware that there are supernatural forces that connect the cases they are working on and, in particular, a cult dedicated to the dark, monstrous aspect of the goddess Persephone will come to vex them. The game is directly inspired by the television show Murder, She Wrote, but also takes inspiration from the cosmic horror genre, mystery books, “cozy” crime dramas, and American TV shows from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.

In this scenario, the Mavens will be attending a gaming convention, Deep Reaver Con. There, the newest edition of Sepulchers & Serpents is debuting it's first adventure. But it appears that all the hysteria from the 1980's is true, that this games puts the souls of young people in jeopardy, when a young man appears to be possessed by a demon.

PLAYER INFO: I am looking to run this one-shot for 4 players.  I will introduce the scenario, set scenes, and provide all play materials. No experience necessary, rules will be taught in game.

SAFETY: This game will be held under the Open Hearth Community Code of Conduct.  Safety tools available are Lines and Veils, the Open Table, and the X-Card.

Content Warning: Murder (of all varieties), threats to animals and children, ritual magic, human sacrifice, and other dark subject matter come up in this game from time to time. Specific to this mystery are demonic possession, references to D&D, and religion.

DURATION: Up to 3.5 hours with a 5-10 minute break approximately every hour.

PLATFORM/RECORDING: We will be using Discord to play. Video is nice but not required. I will not be recording.
