About

(I added optional rules to help players gain XP if not through Entanglements. If you only want to learn how to play Hearts of Wulin, let me know and I will clarify during play which mechanics are in HoW and which are from other systems. Attend any number of sessions. May recruit player from outside of the community.)
Time slot may change from month to month (total number of sessions to-be-determined).
Concept: When a long united kingdom inevitably divides, the powerless masses often need to establish their own order and justice. If they can't, heroes from all walks of life may have to rise to the occasion. Perhaps you are a member of the respected orthodox wulin, or follow the unorthodox code, or still cling to the Imperial ways (loyal to one of the regional lords, etc.), or from another circle altogether. But whatever you believe in, your fate is entangled with others'. How far will you go to do the righteous thing?
Aim: Play in a loose-continuity shared world of a wuxia-flavored series, using Hearts of Wulin as the base system, but with a few game mechanics from other systems (Urban Shadows, my own hacks, etc.) to diversify ways of engaging with the narrative. Imagine making a no-budget web series together, where major characters come and go without clear explanation (aka player dropped out or cannot make the session). Assume the first hour of every session will be for calibration and character/group creation. As long as there are two players and the facilitator available, we will play.
Tone: action (melo)drama, PG-13, (mostly) low-fantasy non-historically-accurate martial hero tales
Subject Matters: violence, death, romance, arranged marriages, hierarchical society, patriarchy (but can calibrate the severity), classism, tribalism, and possibly more (calibrated per session)
Media Inspirations: Romance of the Three Kingdoms (late Han dynasty), Nirvana In Fire 2 (inspired by Northern and Southern dynasties), A Journey to Love (can disregard last 6 episodes; Three Kingdoms inspired?), Prisoner of Beauty (Three Kingdoms inspired), etc.
Open Door policy in effect.
