Concept
Apocalypse Keys is a game about monsters, friendship, big feelings and the end of the world. You play a monster of apocalyptic power and deep, destructive urges, trying to be better than their worst instincts and maybe find... friendship? Love? Redemption? Oh, and also avert one or several apocalypses, some maybe of their own making.
Aim
On a character level, you will try to navigate your own complex feelings, desires and relationships, while also holding the apocalypse(s) at bay. The ones within, and the ones without.
On a player level, I would invite you to take the game serious on its own terms: Your characters are messy and they have dark urges. Each playbook is openly in the text associated with forms of self-harm or abuse. Your social bonds are what keeps you from fully giving in to them, but they are not to be ignored. If it gets to heavy, we always have our safety tools.
Your characters are apocalyptic monsters in their own right. I invite you to conceptualize and play them accordingly. Go big, go bold.
The rules text suggests not to double book playbooks, but it explicitly invites you to take moves from other playbooks, so don't get territorial about it.
Tone:
Big, apocalyptic, tragic, tender, loud, vulnerable, queer, anti colonialist.
Subject Matter:
Abuse and self-harm. Messy urges and unhealthy coping mechanisms. Friendship and love. Interpersonal violence.
With all that heavy stuff, of course, we need to be especially careful and caring with one another.
Lines & Veils, Scene Change and the X-Card will be in play.
The Game might be recorded (subject to player comfort level)
