Sock Puppets

1 session

In this quirky GMless one-shot we’ll be playing puppeteers with their puppets doing an unscripted kids show on local television. Things have been deteriorating for a while as backstage tensions and personal agendas creep into the show. This is the episode where things really go off the rails. Important: Making your own puppet is part of the game. We’ll take however long we need to make our own puppet (as the game itself only lasts about 45 minutes). To do this, please bring something you can put on your hand and use as a puppet to customise: a sock, an oven mitt, even a paper bag will do! I’ll provide some basic crafting materials, but if you want to take more (things like markers, yarn, fabric, googly eyes, stickers, etc) please feel free! Content warnings: This game contains high levels of interpersonal drama. There may be mentions (depending on character choice) of issues like debt, cults, fetishes and other taboo topics, played for laughs.

Everyone sees something different—bear, whale, seal. Depends on who’s dreaming. This game will be run by: James. What is this? This is a survival horror gameset during the heroic age of polar exploration, around the early 20th century. You’ll play explorers who signed on to an mysterious expedition to the Arctic. Together, we’ll tell the story of why this expedition is happening, who’s pulling the strings, and what’s being kept secret. You’ll pass through icy seas and brutal conditions, into a land no map can fully explain. Your fate is uncertain, but what happens past the point of no return is the story we’ll remember. What can I expect? You'll play through an emotional story of people under extreme conditions, choosing between survival and the people, and things, you care about. Sometimes, even when everything seems alright, the icy abyss will turn against you. There will be real dangers: frostbite, starvation, exhaustion. But also psychological horrors: cold, silence, and the memory of your own mistakes and sins. Slowly, but surely, the supernatural will make its presence felt too. Get ready for a speedrun Since this game is usually played across, give or take, three sessions, we will play through it with intention and minimal chewing of the scenery. A sort of abbreviated, fast-forwarded version, if you will. Be mindful of this when you RSVP. Safety Tools & Content Warnings This game will use the Open Door Policy, Lines & Veils, and the X-card to calibrate the game. Keep in mind that this game will probably feature: graphic violence, prolonged suffering, body horror, and isolation.

Pasión de las Pasiones is a game of passion, drama, secrets, delights, and heated conflict. In Pasión de las Pasiones, you and your friends will play out the stories of the greatest telenovela ever to air! You won’t be playing the actors, directors, or camera crew; instead, you’ll be playing characters like El Gemelo, scheming and dangerous, or like La Empleada, innocent character and striving for love. You’ll play through stories with dramatic reveals, explosive confrontations, faked deaths, and more! The telenovela Sangre de San Valentín has recently gotten into hot water. On the set of this show dealing with sexy priests and vampires one of the lead actors Joaquín de León has been found dead. Not just dead, but exsanguinated. The cast and crew are terrified. Production is doing everything to get back on schedule. We're going meta. It's a telenovela about a telenovela! Your character is part of the whole production of Sangre de San Valentín. Your objective: figure out who killed Joaquín, not become the next victim and, above all, keep your job! Safety tools: During this oneshot we shall make use of the X-card and the Lines and Veils safety tools. Content Warning: Romance, violence, blood.

Details

Folks, let's get quadruplicatively extravagant.

The Utrecht RPG Extravaganza is a day to come together, meet new people, and play games in an ultra relaxed environment.

We will meet at the board game store Het Lab and have multiple games running in parallel for an entire afternoon, nice and simple. The event starts around 13:30 with some pre-game chit-chat and we'll get playing around 14:00. Impromptu post-game drinks might follow!

Join whichever game sounds exciting to you! If tables are full, you can get on a waiting list.

Let's spell it out all nice: you're welcome here. Yes, you. We mean it. We have all we need to play and we'll help each other out. This is not about knowing all the rules and telling the best story ever heard. It's about having fun telling a story together.

All games will be played with the Open Door Policy, Lines and Veils, and the X-Card to keep things inclusive and safe for everyone. For any questions or concerns, please get in touch.

Cost: we rent the venue for € 2 per person. Donations to cover those costs are what makes this event feasible. You can contribute by cash, Tikkie, Revolut or PayPal on the day of the event.

Food and drinks: Het Lab sells soft drinks, plus there's a coffee bar opposite the store and plenty of options for food at walking distance.

Accessibility: the mezzanine can be only reached with a staircase and the toilet in the store is not wheelchair accessible.

If you can't make it, please change your RSVP so that someone else can join.
