For this session you will take the role of one of the iconic Freedom Five (or their former intern) who are helping to rebuild Megalopolis after one of these apocalyptic battles when a new threat appears. This session will use pregenerated characters: Legacy: The All-American - Mighty flying leader of the Freedom Five! Wraith: The Urban Rogue - Who uses throwing knives, stealth, & gadgets to fight crime! Tachyon: The Super-Speed Scientist - Who thinks even faster than she sprints! I am intended to run the game using the Roll20 character sheet. A free account will be required to play. We will use Zoom, but the session will not be recorded. We will, of course, be playing within the Open hearth Community Code of Conduct. Content Warning: The first issue is titled "Itsy Bitsy Spider Bots" and does include (cartoony) robot spiders.

<t:1759410000:F> Twenty years have passed since the Enemy was defeated and its armies vanquished. Twenty years since a small group of heroes rose from obscurity to become the stuff of legends, turning the tide of battle. But now there are rumors that the Enemy has returned. Death of Legends is a GM-less fantasy game that uses simple dice mechanics to allow players to construct a rich backstory for their characters, and then narrate scenes depicting a desperate struggle against a returning foe. Designed to be played in a single session split into 3 acts. The first 2 acts establish the characters, the bonds between them, and their heroic efforts during the prior conflict. The final act depicts the terrible return of the ancient enemy, and the heroes attempts to defend the Free Territories, while tracking rumors of a great weapon of power, capable of destroying the enemy once and for all. The rules will be taught during the session. We will, of course, be playing within the Open hearth Community Code of Conduct.

<t:1759694460:F> Mercury Orbit, 2188 An underfunded and overworked research team aboard the United Mining and Development observation and research facility. Stretched to their limits, so close to a breakthrough they can taste it. A single terrible mishap precipitates the end of the crew, the station, and their precious research. Some may survive, but not without great sacrifice. As Toffet Station breaks apart, the rest find only ruin, delirium, and the burning cold of the void. In the end, was it all worth it? Toffet Station is a storytelling game about the inevitable descent of a United Mining and Development observation and research facility orbiting Mercury in 2188, and the regrettably unavoidable fates of its research team. A terrible mishap will mean the end of the crew, the station, and their work. The project is overtasked and underfunded, stretched to the limits of safety and reason, and so close to a breakthrough they can taste it. Toffet station is a dark, lyrical science fiction game set in the not-too-distant future about people pushing themselves too far. Toffet Station runs on the Desperation Engine by Bully Pulpit Games.

Pasión de las Pasiones: La Casa del Átomo
Apocalypse World

MULTIPLE SESSIONS Request I would like to offer this game to different players first before filling with repeat players. INTRO Overview With a new headmaster in charge and La Ladrona Infinita still prowling, the fate of La Casa del Atomo remains uncertain... La Academia de Yaguez is special. A school devoted to helping "las alteradas," people with special powers and requirements. A home for these unique individuals, where they share what they have learned and band together to make a difference. And a place of rivalry, rage, and romance. This perfect manor, with its elegantly laid out gardens and fountain, its beautiful facade, and its picturesque nearby forest, holds secrets and conflicts galore within its walls. Hidden passages reveal new chambers— perfect for trysts or for experiments, alike. A simple gymnasium becomes a training chamber for a team of battle-hardened heroes... and a great way to vent frustrations. The faculty members of this Academia are their own greatest allies, and their own bitterest enemies. It is among this place of science, of power, of beauty, and of simmering tension that our story unfolds, the secrets kept by the building itself standing as nothing against the secrets within the burning hearts of these heroes. The Show Now 70 episodes into its run, La Casa del Átomo has been beloved for focusing on a superhero drama in all the right ways—fewer mind- numbing clashes, more kissing. Over the years, the show wove a complex mythology, to the point that almost no viewer is entirely clear on what is going on. The rivalry between Doctor Carlos Yaguez and his old foe (and perhaps...more?) Enrique Leonforte has been the beating heart of the show—but now, everyone believes Doctor Yaguez is dead, killed at the hands of a figure only known as La Ladrona Infinita! In his absence, Enrique Leonforte has taken up stewardship of the school, much to the chagrin and mistrust of Yaguez's faculty! And last episode, we still saw the armored gauntlet of La Ladrona Infinita gripping one of the mansion's balustrades... REVIEW SCHEDULE: Take 5-10-min break every hour; agenda: select and modify characters (if possible beforehand using a character keeper, otherwise 20-30 min), character intros (10 min), review situation in media res (10 min), gameplay (1.5 hrs+), cliffhanger/epilogues (10-min), stars & wishes (10 min); debrief (remaining 30 min) SAFETY: This game will be held under the Open Hearth Community Code of Conduct. Safety tools available are [List the safety tools you are using: OH players usually default to X-card, Open Door policy, and Lines and Veils - if you need more resources, check out the TTRPG Safety Toolkit here https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1583202183294.pdf] XP: No experience necessary, rules will be taught in game. A character keeper will be provided, and an online dice roller will be available [or whatever you will provide ahead of time for info, like reference sheets] PLATFORM/RECORDING: We will most likely use StreamYard, and I will be recording sessions for facilitator improvement and as a memory tool, with consent to be requested for posting on YouTube. The link will be shared by Discord beforehand. CHARACTER KEEPER: The link will be shared by Discord beforehand. CATS Content: It's a game of superhero melodrama. Aim: To run through the game as far as we get with a cliffhanger and/or epilogues as needed. Priorities of Focus for the GM: 1 Fun, 2 characters, 3 sharing narration and GMing, 4 mechanics. Tone: The tone can range from more serious to semi-serious; avoiding slapstick. Romance is possible. <t:1759410000:F> Concept You are technicians aboard the Adamant Lapis, a cargo hauler running routine sample pickups. Something alien and unstoppable is aboard, and its presence will slowly tear the ship apart. This is a one-shot survival horror story of escalating disaster in deep space. Aim We are here to experience a tense survival scenario together. There is no “winning” in the traditional sense — survival is uncertain, and everyone might die. The aim is to explore how ordinary people face extraordinary horror, to struggle against overwhelming odds, and to see what moments of bravery or despair emerge. Tone Bleak, claustrophobic, and tense. The story is serious, not comedic or gonzo. Expect dread and desperation punctuated by moments of frantic action. Think Alien or Event Horizon rather than Starship Troopers. Subject Matter We will be dealing with body horror, gore, suffocation, infection, paranoia, radiation hazards, confinement, and inevitable loss of safety. Themes of helplessness and isolation are central. These are not meant to shock gratuitously, but to create tension and horror. We’ll use safety tools (Lines & Veils, Open Door, X-card equivalents) to ensure that content is handled respectfully and that everyone feels safe at the table. This game may be recorded (with everyone's explicit consent). We’ll use a layered set of safety tools including Lines & Veils, Open Door, and X-card equivalents. The Open Hearth Code of Conduct applies. We play respectfully and inclusively.

Shared Hearth: <t:1759600800:F> A one-shot of Swords Without Master. Come seek high adventure in a world of swords and sorcery! Show us how you paint a vivid fantasy world and achieve mighty feats of wits and brawn! Plunge into glum depths and soar to jovial heights! Concept: A collaborative fiction-writing system where the challenge comes from describing and creating a short story on the fly. The dice tell you only the tone of narration...until they turn against you with a twist! No experience or familiarity with genre needed. The title "Cut Fire" and image are just a seed of inspiration - the characters and content will be up to the players. Aim: We'll tell a complete short story in 4 hours or less. You may bring a previously-created Rogue to this session if you've played before. Otherwise we'll create characters together before starting our tale. We'll play over the Open Hearth Discord with voice, video optional. We'll use a Google Sheet as a character keeper and shared notes. Tone: Generally light adventure fantasy, although it can range from gritty to philosophical to goofy, depending on what the players bring out. Subject matter: Expect some descriptions of violence and injury (not too gory) in keeping with adventure fantasy. The Open Hearth Community Code of Conduct is in effect. For safety and content, we'll use Lines and Veils at the top, the X-card throughout, and the Open Door policy. You'll get an email from me with the links you'll need for the game. Expect it about a week beforehand, or within a day in case you sign up later or come off the wishlist. Art by Jabari Weathers / Worlds Without Master

<t:1759590000:f> What's the game you've wanted to get to the table but haven't been able to? What's the campaign premise you've considered but don't know how to make it work? What's the rpg that just couldn't actually function if you tried to run it online? What's the wild concept that you know would crash-out but it amuses you just the same? This will be a chat/discussion group about all of this and more. Host Lowell Francis will bring his own selection of "White Whales" but more importantly you should bring your brilliant failures and sky-high concepts. We will be opening up the discussion to the table. This will be recorded for future posting, but folks are welcome to come and lurk with camera and/or microphone off. Battle Warriors 3000 AD! (yes, the exclamation point was part of the title) is one of the many forgotten cartoon series of the 1980s. It still has its fans, enough that there was a live action movie adaptation in 1997, and the last few years there's been talk of a reboot... This is a series of three connected games of Writers' Room, my game of creating a tv show or other fictional narrative. It's perfectly fine to sign up for just one session! After all, we're making multiple adaptations spanning 40 years - there's going to be different writing teams for each one. For this series, we will first create one season of the original cartoon, then the 1997 live action movie adaptation, and finally the first season of the 2025 reboot. No prior rules knowledge is necessary. (If you want to get the game, it's going to be part of the Palestinian Children's Relief Bundle on itch.io.) This game is part of the Shared Hearth event run by the Open Hearth community. We will use a series of safety tools, including Lines & Veils, the X-Card, the Open Door Policy, and the Open Hearth Code of Conduct. If everyone consents, the sessions will be recorded and shared.

Eotenweard - A Looming Darkness
Powered by the Apocalypse
1 session
Spots open
Eotenweard is my Pbta game-in-apparently-endless-development of Dark Age Heroes protecting the innocent from the Darkness that increasingly pervades the Land. Guy Milner & SabineV will be pre-seated for this session. This session will be recorded and permission sought to publish in support of the Community's profile. This is intended to be a gritty, low fantasy, 'historical', game set in version of Northumbria and its surrounding kingdoms during the latter half of the 6th Century: 200 years after the departure of Rome, and 200 years before the 'Age of Vikings'. The BBC's ‘Last Kingdom’ and Prime's ‘Vikings’, provide reasonable touchstones for the look and feel of the setting, as does Bernad Cornwell's 'Warlord Chronicles' trilogy. The players will take the roles of heroes identified by their god(s) and other supernatueral patrons as 'Guardians against the Darkness'. We will begin by creating characters and the Settlement to which they have been drawn by their patrons. Then we'll play to find out what form the Darkness that looms over the settlement takes and how it may be destroyed. We'll be using Lines, Veils, the X-Card and an Open Door, and play within the Community Code of Conduct.

I'll find a short adventure module or prep an adventure site for this session, but who knows what odd places this odd little system will take us! No prior experience is required. Rules will be taught during play. SUBJECT MATTER: Fantasy violence, whimsy TOOLS: X-Card, Lines & Veils, Open Door, Script Change DURATION: One 4-hour session with hourly 5-10 min breaks RECORDING: Maybe? The Spindle in the Glade
Mythic Bastionland
1 session
Spots open
A web of invisible threads holds the fate of the world together. Like thin strands of memories carried by the wind, lifted through the air, tangled in the highest branches. Mythic Bastionland, by Chris McDowall, is a rules-light TTRPG about a dreamlike world of strange knights and weird myths. You’ll play as errant knights travelling through a far away land. Your aim is to seek the Myths, honour the Seers, and protect the Realm. The tone is that of a weird and eerie Matter of Britain tale (touchstones: the novel The Buried Giant and the movie The Green Knight). This session will be structured as a small hex-crawl in which the knights will encounter strange omens, discover the lay of the land, and investigate its myths. Although the openness of the sand-box style that the game provides might very well throw us off in unexpected directions. The game may include horror, injuries, violence, death, religion. But tone and subject matter will be discussed before play. Rules will be introduced during play, no homework needed. We'll be playing on Streamyard with a Google Sheet character keeper. Safety tools include Lines and Veils, X-Card, Open Door. The game won't be recorded.

Venture
Venture
1 session
Spots open
Venture by Riley Rethal is a Belonging Outside Belonging game of introspective heroic fantasy. Think Dungeon World, but GM-less gameplay (i.e., we're all in a traditional adventuring party with wizards, fighters, clerics, rogues, etc., but the focus is entirely on how our relationships with each other as well as our understanding of ourselves change as we trek through an adventure.) Venture gives us magic-filled forests and looming castles, champions in shining armor and vagabonds with dazzling charm, markets of ill-repute and duplicitous authorities, and uncaring gods high above always asking, “What do you do next?” In Venture, we will play as a group of adventurers traveling through a fantasy world, making their way across the terrain while learning about themselves and each other. They will meet townspeople with storied cultures, criminals with shady agendas, mages with esoteric power, and a strange darkness encroaching on the horizon. The game will run for four hours with breaks as needed. Since this is a GM-less game, up to five players may play including myself. Safety tools (X-Card, Lines & Veils) will be used. The Open Hearth Code of Conduct (https://openhearthgaming.com/code-of-conduct) will be observed. Players will be contacted via email approximately a week prior to the game to confirm their attendance. A Zoom link will be emailed to players 10-15 minutes prior to the game's start time.

The Cluster
PbtA
1 session
Spots open
THIS SESSION WILL BE RECORDED AND PUBLISHED to publicise the game. Please keep that in mind before RSVP-ing This is a one-shot of my recently published PbtA game 'The Cluster'. It's a game in which players take the role of a rag-tag Crew who are just keeping their heads above water as the economic tides of the eponymous Cluster of seven systems, each many light-years from the others, but connected by Ring Gates, threaten to swamp them and the cramped and reconditioned ship they use to make a living. A touchstone might be 'The Expanse' for gritty 'real-physics' tech and found family Crew. Star Trek and Star Wars this is definatively not ... As this is a one-shot we'll be playing in a pre-generated Cluster of systems, the details of which are here: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wlRvk9o--PlSjYqMDq0XaCIWACv1rPFD/view?usp=drive_link). Each player will choose one of the available Societies: Harsh, Spacer, Dedicated, Authoritarian, Poor, Sequestered, and that will define the system where they were brought up. They will then choose two Career Playbooks from among Daredevil, Engineer, Fixer, Grifter, Hustler, Investigator, Scientist, Scoundrel, Soldier & Tactician, to reflect what they did between leaving home and joining the Crew. We'll agree which system you start play in and the job you are currently engaged in and then ... play to find out ... We'll be using Lines, Veils, the X-Card and an Open Door, and play within the Community Code of Conduct.

Alien Dark - Escape from Ariarcus
Alien Dark 2E
1 session
Spots open
Alien Dark is my own game (free from https://gallusgames.itch.io/) for rules lite play in the Alien (or similar Alien horror) Universe. It's inspired by Cthulhu Dark (by Graham Walmsley) and The Alien RPG (by Free League Publishing). I'm scaffolding this session with material based on Free League's 'Destroyer of Worlds' module. PCs are members of a Colonial Marine squad (with the option of a civilain 'consultant') who have been hurriedly recalled from a routine circuit of oil installations. The Ariarcus colony is under attack from the Union of Progressive Peoples (UPP) and the squad have received orders to 'return for immediate evac'. UPP jamming has restricted comms over the last few hours and the weather has deteriorated to blizzard conditions. They neeed to make it back to Fort Nebraska for evac! We'll create the squad and identify its NPC members then begin play in media res as the squad's APC reachs the northern edge of the colony. Then we'll play to find out how, or if, they make it and what happens when they discover there may be more to worry about then UPP troopers! We, the players, may know lots, but the characters know nothing ... until they do ... We'll be playing with Lines, Veils, the X-Card and an Open Door, and within the Community Code of Conduct.

Trophy Dark: Isle of Water and Blood
Rooted in Trophy

Portsmouth, New Hampshire, October 22, 1902. Dear Magister Reynolds, We have done it! Through Mistress Wentworth's divinations via Tarot and talking-board, the Hermetic Order of the Crescent Moon has contacted a spirit of great power! The entity says its name is "Khulshedra" and that it was once a High Priestess on the lost continent of Lemuria six thousand years ago! We have entreated this spirit to share its wisdom with us, and it has agreed. In exchange, it has provided us with a ritual of summoning that can call its avatar into the world, through which it promises to teach us ancient occult wisdom. But the timetable for this ritual is short: It must be performed under the star Algol as it rises on the eve of Samhain under a new moon... which your almanac will tell you is in but nine days. It will be 27 years before that astronomical event recurs. Furthermore, this ritual can only be performed on solid ground where the sea is no farther than a pistol shot in any direction. It is fortuitous that our cabal is where it is: the Isles of Shoals are a mere hour's sail east of Portsmouth Harbor. I have taken the liberty to rent out the seasonal hotel "The Mid-Ocean House" on Smuttynose Island that night. I sincerely hope that you can join us for this momentous event: Not even Aleister Crowley himself could imagine the hermetic secrets that Khulshedra shall bestow upon us! I remain, dear Sir, your obedient servant, Dr. Arthur Tillinghast, Magus Esq. Trophy Dark is a collaborative supernatural horror RPG. Characters will likely not survive this experience, and those who do will be forever marked. For this is not the beginning of these characters' stories... it's the end. Isle of Water and Blood is an as-yet unpublished incursion written by the GM. The setting is the northern New England coast in the early 20th century. In this story, the PCs are dilettante occultists who travel to a tiny barren island in the North Atlantic to perform a ritual to summon an entity from Beyond. System: Trophy Dark is the original "Rooted in Trophy" game. All rules will be taught at the table. In R'lyehwatch, the player characters are all professional lifeguards who protect the beaches of the southern California seaside community of Sunset Hills. While these lifeguards do rescue swimmers who get into trouble with rip currents and rogue waves, they also tangle with the cultists, sea monsters, and weird paranormal events that also seem to plague the town. The game mashes up the campy melodrama of Baywatch with cosmic horror stories like The Call of Cthulhu. System: This is a rules-light game that uses the Tricube Tales system. No experience is necessary, and what rules there are will be taught at the table. Technology: We will be using the facilitator's Zoom for video chat, a shared Google Sheet as a character keeper, and an online dice roller. Players may choose to roll physical dice if they prefer. <t:1759428000:f> In Mythomorphosis, 1-4 players will explore the relationship between a society’s history and one of its dominant cultural stories as they create and change a myth over the course of generations. You’ll be telling—and tweaking—this story collaboratively, embodying different characters as necessary if you choose to. There is no Game Master, and no one has more ownership over the story than anyone else. This is for a one shot of Mythomorphosis: Second Edition by Gordie Murphy, a GM-less mythmaking tabletop roleplaying game about how myths and legends change over generations. You can see the Kickstarter campaign here for reference: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gordiemurphy/apotheosis-0/description I plan to record the session but will confirm upload at the end. We will use Zoom for our session. I’ll email all players about a week before with the necessary links. The session will run up to three hours. The Open Hearth Code of Conduct will be in play and we will use Lines & Veils and the X-Card for safety tools. Shared Hearth: <t:1759514400:F> Lady Blackbird is an Imperial noble fleeing from an arranged marriage to be with her secret lover, the pirate king Uriah Flint. To reunite with him, she has hired a notorious smuggler and the crew of his skyship, The Owl. However, The Owl has been captured by an Imperial cruiser. How will Lady Blackbird and the others escape? What dangers lie in their path on the way to the pirate king’s lair? Concept: A classic game by John Harper. The game features an evocative steampunk/retro-sci-fi/fantasy setting, with an open-ended starting scenario and preset characters. Mechanically it's a straightforward tag-based dice pool system focused on action and breaks for interpersonal drama. There's also Keys to guide decisions and earn XP for advances. The PDF is free here: https://ladyblackbird.org/ Aim: We'll play one session of 4 hours, and see how far we get. We may not resolve Lady Blackbird's fate, but there will be plenty of dueling, shouting, stealthy escapes, quiet debate, and possibly even romance! Tone-wise we can decide as we go, but the game lends itself to space operatics in the vein of Star Wars or Firefly. We can play it with goofy hijinks, serious personal moral questions, or with moments of both. Safety/Content: We'll have the Open Hearth Code of Conduct in effect. We'll set up Lines & Veils at the top and use the X-card throughout.

<t:1759669200:F> “The extent of misery, ignorance and vice amidst all the wealth and great knowledge of the ‘first city of the world’ is, to say the least, a national disgrace to us all.” - Henry Mayhew, 1851. London, January 1862. Queen Victoria weeps. Prince Albert is dead. The streets are slick with gin, mud, and blood. But in the alleys, crypts, and grand halls of the city, the undead stir. You are one of them. A cursed revenant—or perhaps something worse. Play as one of the Dead in this decadent, decaying London at the cusp of nightlife and modernity. Will you haunt the Hollow of Highgate, brawl in the Bucket of Blood, or charm a noble in Parliament’s back benches? You’ll scheme, fight, indulge your passions, and navigate a city bursting with secrets, sorrow, and undead politics. This game may be recorded (subject to everybody's consent at the table). Lovecraftesque: We Serve and Protect
Lovecraftesque

<t:1759496400:F> WE SERVE AND PROTECT by Kenneth Hite. A long hot summer of protests rocks the streets of Chicago in the 1970s, and you rock with them. Until the cops pen you in, snatch you up, and take you to the precinct house, where worse things than rubber hoses wait in the basement. The Chicago Police Department serves and protects… but what inhuman entity do the cops who have you serve? What dark secrets do they protect? About the Game Lovecraftesque is a GM-less storytelling game of creeping, existential horror. Together, players explore a slow-building mystery through the eyes of a single protagonist, taking turns shaping scenes and contributing details. Roles rotate each scene: Narrator – Describes the setting and introduces mysterious clues. Witness – Portrays the protagonist and reacts to events. Whisperers – Offer ideas, imagery, and suggestions, and may look things up to enrich the story. This is a game of cosmic horror that builds atmosphere, not body counts. The fear here is subtle, creeping, and inevitable. Important Notes This is not a Lovecraft pastiche. While inspired by cosmic horror, Lovecraftesque rejects the racism, ableism, and xenophobia of H.P. Lovecraft’s fiction. Instead, it focuses on human vulnerability in the face of the unknowable. For more on this approach: 📄 Mental Health and Lovecraft 📄 Handling Race in Lovecraftesque This game may be recorded (with everyone's explicit consent). We’ll use a layered set of safety tools including Lines & Veils, Open Door, and X-card equivalents. The Open Hearth Code of Conduct applies. We play respectfully and inclusively.

NOBODY KNEW WHEN IT STARTED, OR WHY. PERHAPS THE LONELY DEATH OF A SPINSTER WAS ONE TOO MUCH FOR ANGELS TO BEAR, OR A CHEMICAL LEAK I N THE GROUNDWATER HAD UNEXPECTED CONSEQUENCES. ONLY ONE THING IS CERTAIN: NOW THE DEAD WALK. This story game is about the zombie apocalypse and the desperate choices of the survivors. Not only do these characters scramble over each other, trying to find safety, but they may also cooperate and even sacrifice themselves so at least a few might survive to tell the story. This is Eero Tuovinen's classic story game Zombie Cinema in which, like it says, we play through a zombie movie! Oh Captain, My Captain!

<t:1759467600:F> Oh Captain, My Captain! is a short form worldbuilding role-playing game (RPG) that explores heroism and the complicated relationships we have with people we admire. It’s approachable for players who have never tried an RPG before and satisfying for players who have been gaming for years. It’s also compact enough to tell unforgettable stories in just thirty minutes. The game revolves around players drawing from a deck of cards with open-ended questions. Each question players answer helps them learn about their character, their world, their captain, and the complicated relationship they have with a living legend. Players use these answers to make connections between their stories leading up one of three final questions that end the game. Groups can change their final question based on the tone they desire for their experience. The open-ended nature of the game allows players to explore any genre or story they can imagine, from a swashbuckling pirate adventure to a space opera with the starship crew, or the adventures of a high school football team or even a team of superheroes! No matter what story you want to tell, Oh Captain, My Captain! helps you create an exciting adventure to entertain your whole game group. We will, of course, be playing within the Open hearth Community Code of Conduct. Session will be played over zoom and will not be recorded. I have a physical copy of the deck and will be drawing cards and presenting questions to the players.
